This English explorer back in the sailing ship days, gets shipwrecked of an island in the south pacific. The cannibal natives find him, and bring him back to their chief for him to decide what to do.

The Englishan still has his trade stuff with him, and makes presents of mirrors and glass beads to the chief and his royal family.

Through sign language and the Englishman's rough understanding on a few south pacific dialacts, he flatters the king. Eventually the king decides that they will not kill and eat the Englishman and allows him to stay in the village until a passing sailing ship can be singaled and rescue the stranded explorer.

After a while, the king's youngest daughter takes a shine to the Englishman and asks her father the king if they can be wed. The king agrees, and the ceremony is performed. They are given their own palm hut, and on the wedding night the marriage is consumated.

The new bride keeps saying "kani eewho" during it. He figures it must mean something good, so he keeps on.

After a while, the Englishman decides he's going to stay. There's still a signal set up for a passing sailing ship and one day aa whaling ship srops anchor in the bay.

The Englishman meets the crew and tells them he wants to stay with the tribe. The captain, a Scot, asks if he needs anything. Englishman replies he has everything he needs- food, water, shelter, clothing, and a beautiful young wife.

The captain says, is there anything you'd like in the way of creature comforts? Englishman says Well, I guess I'd like some tea, so a tea set. And I haven't played golf since before I left to explore these waters several years ago.

The captain obliges him with some tea and a tea set, as well as giving him his own golf clubs and some balls.

The Englishman thanks the captian profusely, and tells him his full name and where he's from, so he can inform his parents and brother upon returning to England.

So, he deicides he's going to teach the royal court to play golf. He talks to the king, who by now has a good command of english, and the king orders that a nearby field be cleared, the native grasses cut and an area cut close to serve as the green,

Englishman supervises, and cuts a small round hole in the green for a cup.

He figures the easiest way to teach them to play is to start putting. He's giving a putting demonstration, putts the ball into the cup, and says "kani eewho!"

The king says What do you mean, wrong hole?
