Re: Ok guys what if like.... WHAT IF DOC BROWN USED A RANGER INSTEAD OF A DELOREAN?
Would snow tires still be standard like they were on the Delorean?
Seriously, it was a cool looking car, but it was all show and no go. As said, the PRV 2.8 was a dog in that heavy a car. A magazine at the time (R&T IIRC) said the most realistic scene was when he couldn't outrun the terrorsists in their VW bus in the parking lot.
As a former VW bus owner, I find this to be almost insulting. Buses didn't so much accelerate as gain momentum.
Same mag said the only way a Delorean could hit 88 MPH was down hill, with a tailwind, a full tank of gas and several hundred pounds of extra wieght. Possibly excageration, as they probably could go that fast.
My 1974 VW bus (1.8 factory dual single barrel carbs) got up to 90 once with a long run up behind a semi and a slight downward grade. Pulled out of the draft, and it was like throwing out an anchor.
A couple weeks later the front oil seal failed, and I'm sure the over reving didn't help it any.
