hello, all. I've been looking for a beater/rat/ light junk hauler project and last Saturday finally found something that fit what I wanted. 3 owners from same family 1992 Ford Ranger standard cab. 4.0 V6 5 speed 2wd. Has a/c that works but needs a recharge, cruise control and tachometer. windows, locks and mirrors are all manual. Truck is black with some rust(WI!) but is decent for the age. 142,xxx miles and all of this for $550 so I am happy with it. Many recipts for major work and general maintence. Its stock for now, except for a Dual cd/mp3/usb deck.
My plans are(sorta in order):
a set of good used tires(planning on new wheels, but these tires are shot)
basic tune up(oil/filter, coolant flush, PCV, fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap and rotor) probably a lot of clean up while I'm doing this as well as maybe a cheap ebay air intake.
shifter linkage bushings(shifter has a lot of side to side play and is hard to find the right gear, so I think its bushings)
lower and alignment-this is where I'll need help. I'm an import guy and have never messed with a lowered truck. Looks easy enough, but I want to get it right in one shot. I'm looking at a 3/5 drop, I'd like about 3" drop in the front and just want the rear to ride level. I'll probably use air shocks in the rear as I do plan to haul and tow light loads occasionally.
long term:302 V8/ 9" rear w/ disc brakes and 4.10:1
While all of this is happening, I'll be working on other stuff as well. Some clean up, rust removal, gut interior except basically dash, seats, door panels. Need some buckets and different steering wheel(wondering if a fox body with cruise switches would be plug n' play), small sound system. Window tint.
I'll post up a pic later...
and about me: going on 30, engaged to a great women, getting ready to go back to college for a new career path. My other car is a 1997 SubaruLegacy GT (BD9) that is also always being worked on and modified.I need to get around to finally getting a motorcycle license this fall. I want to get a cafe racer type bike. I'm also into bicycles(vintage and fixed gear) and listen mostly to underground hip-hop, punk/metal, and old school country/folk/blue grass. oh and EIRE GO BRAGH!
