Default $350 project ranger. Should be fun.

Well I sold my 95 F-150 (too big, 14mpg, synchros were goin out) and found this 84 ranger for $800 and by the time it was all said and done I got it for $350. Has a new cam, the top half of the engine was just gone through with new seals and gaskets, almost brand new tires, new starter, dura-liner plastic bed liner, new battery (have all the receipts all within the last 8 months) supposedly it's an engine from a 1980 ford something (he wasn't sure. When I picked it up it had a vice grips in the carb holding the choke open, you had to bump start it, and the radiator leaked. It's going to need: new dash, radiator, driver side mirror glass, electronic choke, 8 ball shifter knob, mexican blanket seat covers, maybe new seats as these are pretty worn out, hula girl, tonneau cover, and eventually I'm going to drop it. The wire going from the ignition to the starter solenoid/relay was bad so I ran a new one and it key starts just fine. I did have a few questions though:

Is it a four speed? I couldn't find a fifth gear so I assumed just four.

What's the best choke fix for this? I don't really understand how it works, I'm assuming just replace it?

Would new speakers clean up the sound any? I want to keep the stock radio as it works and looks cool but the sound is awful, I can live with it though if speakers won't help.

Here's the only pic I have at the moment but I'll grab some more tonight, it's a little rougher in person but not aweful.

Oh and most (if not all) the vacuum lines coming from the box on top of the passenger side wheel well. It made the 2 hour drive home though so I guess I'll figure out what they're for and probably remove them all together.

Thanks guys, is there any reasons I should be weary of a 4" axle flip, and 2" cut front springs? Don't worry, I'm not expecting it to ride like a Cadillac.

Welcome to the forum!

You might want to lift up that plastic bedliner, and see how much rust is hiding under it.

Yeah I'm very afraid of what I'll find under there... It'll come off this week, I'm gonna sell it as I hate plastic bed liners (eventhough this one is really nice). Do they make patch panels for beds? I have a welder and no problem doing that as I'm eventually getting a tonneau for it. Yeah it's gonna be a ton of work but I love projects.
