Hey there from Denver!
Hey guys, I'm new to this forum site, I drive a 1994 Ford Ranger Splash 3.0l
It's not the greatest, but it is a ranger.
I'm looking to start modding it and making it a fun little mud and trail toy as well as bump up the Horsepower and torque of that thing.
As for me, well, I like my truck,
That I do.
Any helpful advice or questions?
Its a 3.0L 2wd Automatic.
I plan on getting a Manual Tranny and 4wd Rigged in there.
Reg Cab.
^^^Needs some minor body work to fix where a tire blew out ^^^
^^^From the front, needs new bumper, grille and windshield^^^
^^^And covered in snow^^^
First going to do bodywork and paint
Then minor mechanical fixing
I want to put in a 3in Body Lift Kit
3-4in Suspension lift kit
33-35 in Tires
Lighting systems
Winch
Headers
CAI
Swap out to a Mustang 5.0 V8 engine with a Ford F150 4wd manual Transmission
And other such stuff.
Until I finish it completely.
Will start another forum once I start to show the progress I make.

One of the first Rangers I can remember was a Black 93 Splash 4x4 extended cab. I was 5 years old. Welcome to the FRF!! From the Washington and the great frozen North of Montana. What engine? Tranny? Cab? How about some pics? These are great off road. Switch to manual hubs if you don't have them!

Its a 3.0L 6Cylinder, Still Stock, Automatic 2wd. Regular Cab.
I plan on putting a manual and maybe even a 4.0 engine
As well as rigging in a 4wd.
I took it mudding today. And it did alright as is. But it could be MUCH better.
Ill upload pics soon!

More power to you if you do it. Just my opinion...fix it up as a 2wd sell it, and buy a 4wd. Lot of work to convert. Just my opinion. Either way can't wait to see what you do with it!!!

Thats what everybody says I should do, But it's not so much as the work or even the money involved.
Its just me getting the satisfaction of saying "I did it!"

I agree with you definately. But you also don't have all the little nickel and dime crap that goes with it,measuring for parts, sourcing parts, waiting for parts, and the downtime on a truck if you drive it everyday.
I've got a 75 Buick LeSabre, I'm not going to lie I measured it out to put a later model Chevy one ton frame under and make it a 4wd. Just to make someone mad lol. Like I said whatever you do more power to you and we all here at FRF look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Yeah, I understand exactly what you mean,But, I figure If I can make sure I have the time, I'll do it, and do it well. But If I don't have the time, Of course I'll always remember your Idea. As I'll fix it up well before I start the conversions.

Good deal. I spent three years fixing a 64 El Camino, and the satisfaction when I had here almost done. Amazing. My Elky got jacked, huge dissappointment. Fing car thieves.

So, Back to your first post, What do you mean by Manual Hubs?
I'm still learning about cars and this project will be more of a learning experience than anything.

Most Rangers, have automatic locking hubs on the front axle that allow it to disconnect the front wheels from the drive shaft when you aren't in four wheel drive. The automatics in the Ranger suck horribly and break. The manual hubs are selectable. You have to get out and switch the hubs from locked to unlocked. I replaced my hubs fromt he autos to the manuals. Someone else can probably explain hubs a lot better than I can. But that is the jist of it. Look on an older 4wd truck and you'll see a red cap on some that is movable. That's the hub in the front axle. You can also see locking hubs on the new Super Duty trucks.

lol.

I'm big on both intakes and exhausts. There are a lot of guys that will argue against a CAI (cold air intake). Because they pull warm air supposedly from the engine bay. My opinion is do it. It can't hurt. I haven't seen any good evidence against them and everyone has an opinion. Search the forum for stuff on CAI's and form your own opinion. You may want to fab up a protective box to block off the intake air filter from engine heat which seems to be the central consensus on how to make them work correctly. You might make a snorkel set up if you are making a wheeling rig, that way you can run a filter that's up high away from water and will pull cold air. They make kits for this but I don't know if they are specific to a Ranger. Don't cut your catalytic converter off, it's illegal for one, and for two there are plenty of high flows on the market if you really need to replace them. You can get sensors to act like them if you need to but if something is actually wrong you won't know it by you CEL (check engine light). You aren't gaining anything by cutting them off. Off road lights are a must, winch is handy, do a front receiver hitch and a rear so you can move the winch to the front or back. Get a good tool box and make sure it's secure in your bed, in case you roll over. Bolt it down. Rocker guards are good too. Solid axle in the front is way better than a ttb (twin traction beam) setup like I have. You may also want to get a mount for the bed for your spare tire. I'd put a cage in to but that's kind of expensive. I want one in my Ranger but I drive it everyday. So for the moment I'm still planning that. Upgrade your stereo if it hasn't been done already. Love my ipod attachment since I have one. These are just my ideas. Also body lifts allow you more clearance without sacrificing anything. Just don't go with a HUGE body lift. Keep it to about 3 inches. Otherwise you can expose things under the truck you don't want to get wet or dirty. Suspension depends on your axle that you get for the front.
