Hey Rangers! I have recently bought an '83 4-banger Ranger for a project for me and my son. It has a 2.3L, 5-speed, regular cab with long bed. I am replacing the #1 piston that cracked and going to start fixing it up for fishing, running about and training my 17 year-old to drive a straight drive. Paid only $200 for it case the guy didn't want to look into the trouble it was having. Found no compression on #1 cylinder and pulled the piston and the piston was cracked and compression rings were cracked apart in two locations causing blowback through the manifold and very rough idle. Bought piston and rings from NAPA and am gonna drive it for a while to school (that I've re-enrolled to Auto Mechanics and Electronics due to job layoff). When I get the outside straightened and painted, then my son and I want to rebuild the motor. Looks decent and has a good interior right now. Needs radio and hopefully put newer Ranger wheels on it soon. Hope to read much advice from you guys on the project and will give any experiences I have while doing it. Good to be joining such a streamlined group!!! See you in the posts!
