2nd chance
I'm on my 2nd ranger now. 1st ranger was a white 01 XLT 2.3DOHC man with 3.73 shortbox reg cab. Only had 60K on it when I bough it in 2006. I bought it directly from old guy so I new it was in great shape. I really loved that truck and put only 10K on it until methhead rear-ended my while I was stopped at about 60mph. Bent the frame, shrunk box 2ft, box pushed into cab so doors would not open/close, rear window broke and the hit was so hard the plastic part around radio popped out and rear view mirror was missing until I found it in what was left of my box. To summarize I am still really sour and would still be driving that truck if it weren't for some a$$*&^%.
I just bought my new 1 to replace the 96 SC2 I have been reluctantly driving. Its the same as my old 1 except 145K, gold, cruise control and 2.5. I really wanted the 2.3 DOHC but thought this truck was good deal (after looking and driving 8 other similar trucks) and was willing to deal with the timing belt. I have had 2 fill-ups and my mileage isn't coming close to stacking up to the 2.3. Power also seems much less than what I had in the 2.3. I'm hoping a good tune-up will resolve these issues. But the truck is almost completely rust free (not common in my area) and interior very nice. I also had battery+starter issues the day after I bought it from dealer. i am having a sour taste about this truck already but being a bit short on $ I need to make it work. I have a thread about the tune-up going and hope that brings up my performance. I really hope it works out but so far the signs have not been good.
