Default Did I get a fair price on my 99??

Hi everybody, my name is Phil. I'm a new member...I just purchased a 1999 ranger club cab 4X4 stepside (w/the fiberglass bed) with a V-6, and 160,000 miles. it was a fleet vehicle owned by a moving co. so it was well maintained. I paid $1,600 for it, but it needs a new exhaust (cat back) someone stole the cat converter so its completlelly missing and most of the exhaust to the muffler, and it needs a new drivers seat (thats missing too, it has a milkcrate for a drivers seat now!) And it will need front rotors and pads and a good tune up, its been sitting for 3 months.... did I get a good deal?? or did I make a mistake?? I'm very mechaniclly inclined, and a mechanic friend with a shop and lift owes me about $400-$500 labor because I gave him a Jeep Cherokke....The bodys actually very nice but the hood needs to be repainted, and the interior needs a good cleanning (and drivers seat) but nice otherwise.....What do you guys think?? I'm not sure if its the 3.0 V-6 or 4.0 V-6? Are both those engines good? Anything I should look out for or replace?? Any advice or help would be greatlly appreciated....Thanks

I think you did ok, but pics will help justify our answers...very common truck, can find junkyard parts no problem.... If the engine is in check, and only bad hood,exhaust,seat..
then ehh maybe coulda got a few bucks lower but still, did good.
BTW....some of the dealerships by me sell these trucks in good condition for $4-5K, so, add up your repair cost in parts, then see if you made a great deal.

welcome to FRF. Wow, a lot of Massachusetts guys are joining which is great! I paid 9k for my 99 but it only had 47k miles on it now i have 93xxx on it with a 03 front end and it runs like a top. I have a 3.0 which is a durable engine, as any other which is properly maintained. If you pop the hood, look at the diagram for the serpentine belt, it should say what motor it is right on the label.
post pics of the truck! lol

and as far as if you got a deal, i think you did. a seat is very easy to find. the junkyard near me has many 98-00 trucks but only ONE has bucket seats which need a cleaning but will look cool. I got my 03 FX4 seats for a good deal and sold my stock ones if i still had them i would just have given u the drivers seat haha
for the exhaust i say just replace the cat (need it for inspection, im sure you know that lol) and throw a flowmaster muffler on it and call it done
