Red face Thinking about getting one

So, as the title states, i dont have a ranger. I have been looking for an older one, and I found one, and ive got the guy talked down to $500 on it... Its a 1990 Reg Cab (i think long box) 4x4 5spd 2.9L... Thing is its got ALOT of cancer (thats what i call rust) outside of the bed is pretty beaten up... oh heck, ill see if i can get some pix to post... thatd be easierr than trying to explain it... My Questions are, What is the opinion of other ranger owners, what should one pay for a vehicle in this condition, also wondering how difficult it is to replace a cab bushing mounting bracket on a 90's model ranger, because i know theres at least one that is basically gone...

KBB wont put a value on something in "poor" condition... Im only asking because you guys are the "resident experts" so to speak, on the ranger whereas ive never owned one. i dont expect this to make 2000mi trips or anything, just 45min to and from work, and maybe the occasional trip to the woods... Forgot to add in the original post, the 4wd does work... shifts smooth... seems to be mechanically sound considering the body damage

Here is my 2 cents worth.

I probably wouldn't buy it as a commuter car, but more as a toy to take hunting or haul something from your local hardware like use mine for. Mechanically mine runs great and I have taken it to work a few times (27 miles 1 way). It has some rust.

But then again I only paid $500 for it off my dad.

Offer them a lower asking price in cash if they're dying to get rid of it. That is if you're going to at least make usable.

I wouldn't pay 500 for it and use it as a daily driver.

i quess my first question would be " How many times did it roll down the mountain before you decided to sell it ?" then i would pull out 350 cash at max and see what he says. only reason i say 350 is cause it does run and would make a great toy for you to take to the woods. Then save up and buy a more decent truck

Thanks for your opinion everyone. Im gonna try to get him to go down on the price a bit more. Only reson i figure its even close to being worth 500 is cause the 4wd works, and it does still run good/decent. Im thinking i could problly get fairly close to that amount if i parted it out too. Can definatlly tell its been rode hard and put away wet a few times. Get a decent truck later on lol ...I do have an 08 Titan already... looking for a cheap beater to put the commuteing miles on, and take to the woods/trails... I dont want to bang up the newer truck too bad. Also, makeing a couple trips from NC to WI an back added up the miles pretty quick... I bought it with 12miles on it, and im close to 50,000 after just two years.....
