Default 99 Ford Ranger for 100 bucks

Hello, I just bought a 99 Ford Ranger XLT super cab RWD 3.0L V6 Auto from a friend. Doesn't run at the moment but I think it will shortly. Anyways this is my second Ford Ranger and I'm gona make a hobby out of this one and just keed modding and enjoying for years to come. Hey for 100 bucks its all free isn't it? Currently has 116k miles on it.

Has some 20" chrome rims on it in need of refinishing and centercaps
Has a duel exhaust in need of refinishing
Little dings all over the hood
Needs new trim.
Interior needs update and a little tlc
Engine needs all fluids changed, and problem diagnosed.

Symptoms.... stutter starts and stutter runs. Won't rev and won't stay running long. Before this it was running on fewr than 6 cyl. Also I'm told brakes are failing.... so here we go.

welcome! post some pics up! alot of those 3.0 trucks have head gasket problems so that could cause it to run rough like that.

well I did a compression test on it yesterday and got 70 psi across all 6 cylinders. I'm guessing that is perfect because its consistent.

I also drained and removed the radiator for better access, planning on changing the valve cover gaskets because they are leaking.

From the way the spark plugs looked when I removed them I am sure two cylinders are not firing, I forgot to mark which ones, so I've got to do some more testing.

Is it possible that the coil pack fails partially? I bought some new plugs but I wanna get some more work done before I stick them in there.

Got a new fuel filter to install as well.

The Fuel rail had pressure and I could hear it engage when I turn the key, but don't have a fuel pressure tester to verify proper function.... shouldn't it at least idle well if I'm getting fuel in the rails?

----------

Things I've noticed since I've been working on the vehicle.... the radiator fluid seemed to be mirky, but I don't think there as oil in it.

The power steering fluid looks like mud.

Brake fluid looks thick

Tie Rod end was almost completely loose and comming off.

Some of the plugs were oily wet, while two were dry and grey like they were scorched, while all looked like they needed replacing.

Valve cover gasket leaking on the left side (passenger side)

Hose rotted off the the intake... I think it was the intake recirc or crankcase recirc or something like that.

Oil black, but not muddy... guess that's good right?

Auto tranny fluid nice and red.
