I test drove the 3.0 yesterday. It was kinda nice. Reminded me a lot of my dad's old Explorer. Biggest gripes: not as much punch as my more powerful, lighter car (duh, duh, duh), and my left knee kept canceling the turn signal. All in all, not too bad.

Don't know if I'm going to buy it, though. I'll hold off and give the seller a chance to sell it out from under me. In the mean time, I'll try to find another fun, light truck or jeep in my price range. If neither happen, then it was destined to be.

Thanks guys, really interesting to hear about your American rangers. here in the uk diesel is expensive so 2.5 or 3.0 is not too bad on fuel. Leather interior is nice. just need the the truck to feed my wood burning stove. keep those rice burners well behind.

I've read that the 3L V6 only saves you about 1 mpg or so. If all you are going to do, is use it as a daily driver, go with the little V6. If you want push the truck a little, go with the 4L. You won't be giving up much in the MPG Dept.

I have had 3 Rangers, 91, 97, and a 03. All had the 4L V6. I've been happy enough with the engine.
