first thing i wanna do is change the gauge cluster so i have a tach.

then among my list of wants is a lift, headers, muffler, tires (and possibly rims), and maybe do something to get a l/s rear diff. (swap or ?. don't know the options available)

any suggestions?

Welcome to FRF!

re: diff -- cheapest option, unless you find a gift, is to swap out your rear axle for an axle with the gearing you want installed. this option will run you about $100 to $400, plus installation (or you can install it yourself).

buying new gearing will run you at least $400 for the new gears, plus several hours labor in installing them...

options on the first choice include asking yourself if you want rear disc brakes or not. if so, then look for an explorer axle with the gearing you want; it'll likely have rear discs. if you want to stick to drums, then look for the appropriate ranger or explorer axle with either 9" or 10" drum brakes...

are there any particular years or models i should look for? or is it just hit or miss? from reading around, one from a ranger should just be plug and play, and explorer needs some brackets welded on, right?

that is true, according to my (admittedly limited) research. I'm rockin' a 3.55 open diff, so I was kinda looking into finding a 4.10 LS for my truck, then talking STL into driving down here to install it.

yeah, been there already. it says 95, but I'd rather it said 97 or, better yet, R7.
