I bought a 1996 Ford Ranger a few months ago. I do not know anything about fixing cars, so I thought I'd join here and maybe learn a thing or two. Right now I am having issues with vacuum with transmission (I think). It backfired a while ago and a bunch of hoses came loose and one that I reconnected behind the engine had red oily stuff, which I figured to be transmission fluid. I checked the fluid and it was very low. When I take off in it, it acts like it is in neutral for a little bit and then takes off. I was told that the transmission fluid is probably going into the motor and burning. I hope your with me on explaining this because I don't know what I'm talking about, but want to learn how to fix my own truck. If you know what I'm talking about, can you give me some answers on how to fix this?
