It came from somewhere in western PA.

A big problem was the fact that someone had undercoated it at some point and the undercoating dried out and cracked. The salt got into the crack and just sat there and ate away whatever was there. I'm in the process of scrapping all of the undercoat off and I'll just have it oiled for winter...if I still have it.

The pan is steel and so are all of the replacements. It's a 3.0L, not sure about the 4cly and the 4.0L.

Progress!

The new pan is finally in and most everything is back together. Only time will tell if it leaks. I spent the extra money on a metal reinforced gasket so hopefully that'll help too.

Being 4WD we were able to drop the front diff instead of pulling the motor. After getting all the pan bolts out the pan got stuck b/n the transmission dust shield and the oil pump...thus requiring me to loosen all of the transmission bolts and take a pry bar and move it back a small amount. Then the pan dropped out and the new on went right in. It sounds like a quick process but it has spanned about 3 weekends.

Ford really needs to have their engineers work on cars to see that the packaging of drive train components matters. What a pain to get to some of the bolts.

Hopefully it'll be back on 4 wheels next weekend. Pics attached
