Default bringing a 96 Ranger back to life

Hi, I'm Chris from Chicago. My 1996 XLT 4x2 3.0 has been sitting in the driveway for the last 5 years. I would periodically start it up to make sure it was still alive. I thought the transmission was near death but a mechanic who came to the house thinks it might be fine. He said the fluid was very low and after 3 quarts it was back in motion with only some slight hesitation. A miracle! Yeah I feel like an idiot for not changing the fluid all these years. He told me to drain and fill with new trans fluid and get a new trans filter. There is a leak coming from the gas tank and he told me to look for one online. That's why I'm here. To ask questions from the ranger experts. My goal is to fix mechanical problems first and if budget allows, fix some cosmetic damage. I love this ranger truck. I made this small thing do everything possible. An incredible trusty workhorse, it served me well. A lot of good memories and with less than 70k miles I need to get it back on the road.

thanks for the warm welcome guys. @pooleo I will definitely keep you in mind.First things first, at the moment I'm dealing with battery problems and will post it in appropriate forum section. As far as pics, my ranger is nothing pretty to look at. I hope at some point I can change this. So far I'm envious of all the good lookin' trucks on here.
