Not sure how much I can contribute on here- but I am an ASE certified tech. Did some time with a jeep dealer, a few firestone stores in the Portland area, tried diesel mechanics for a while and I've since landed at Les Schwab as a brake/alignment tech. Also a WyoTech graduate via the Sacramento campus back in 2005. Family plans keep my ranger to a daily driver as first priority for now. Not that the 98's lend themselves to aggresive budget building, lol.
Mechanics FTW!!! I have a bachelors of science in Diesel Technology lol love it

Yeah, been turning wrenches professionally for 6 years now. Hold 6 ASE's, MAC Cert for A/C, EPA 609 for A/C, several Chrysler certs(probably out of date already).... Yada, yada. Currently just doing brakes and steering/suspension work for Les Schwab. Pay is decent, hours are regular(not flat rate), benefits are excellent, yearly bonus, and I live a half mile away from the shop. It's all win-win. Can't wait to buy a house and get my tools out of storage and into my own garage!!!
