Default Newbie researching for upcoming project

I have a 93 Ranger XLT 2.3L SOHC I4 mated to a 4spd OD. I bought my Ranger 2 years ago at 93K mi for $50 from a friend (I couldn't pass up the deal). I had to install a new battery and replace the front rotors and pads O/W road ready.

I originally bought the truck to drive in the winter. I have several other cars but primarily drive the Ranger. The body has a few dents and scratches, and faded paint but is rust free. The motor runs strong and is relatively economical 21 city, 25 hwy. The AC blows cold and the heater works like a champ. The steering is tight, tracking is good and trans shifts smooth.

I am currently on a trip that will clock over 2000 miles in two weeks (the odometer just clicked over 100k). I felt comfortable with my decision to take the truck for hauling. Early into my trip I realized that the normally aspirated 2.3L is underpowered and requires frequent downshifting in hilly regions, especially with a load. I owned an '87 T-bird TC and an '84 Mustang SVO. Both were a pleasure to drive with plenty of spunk, while returning decent fuel economy... The light bulb went on and I decided to install a turbo in my Ranger.

I've already garnered a bit of info but most regarding DOHC 2.3 and 2.5. Any relevant tips, info, etcetera will be greatly appreciated. I will document the build and post info here for input and future reference.

Garth
