I sincerely think that you should take up technical writing Matt.

When you touch it only to the top post, use the key to try to start it.

When you touch it to only the bottom post, it will crank the engine as soon as you touch it.

And correct, DO NOT touch anything else with that jumper cable ever. That why I was saying caution in three languages before. Unfused, unprotected, unrestricted current.

sorry it took so long to get back to ya. got the truck towed to the house finally! the guy who towed it jumped it with a screw driver and it was turning over but wouldnt start. is there something in the ignition switch that not only sends juice to the starter but it sends a signal somewhere else for it to give spark or send fuel?

Don't want to sound stupid, but did you have your battery tested?
Low cranking amps will do the same thing described.

They has to be in the ON position obviously for it to actually start. The only other thing powered in START is the started to the best of my knowledge.

the fuel pump switch under the passenger side kick area...PRESS that for like 5 seconds then try

----------

after rereading this, i had this problem w the chevy i HAD TO take a wrench or anything metal and put it on the battery and purposely touch it to the trucks body and that was the only way it worked and then we fixed it later on ...idr how

but anyway that was some kind of ground issue or something

since u say he started it w a screw driver but didnt specify how..

ive also heard about a coil pack going bad. the only thing i can think that relates is that the passenger side floor board is always wet. does that have anything to do with it or is that just the heat and ac?

Check the inertial fuel shutoff switch as described above first. It cuts off the fuel pump.
