Default New here, but my truck died, so now I am driving an Escape...boo.

Morning all, or afternoon depending on where you are.

Well, short background, as long as I am introducing myself.

My name is Sara, just turned 30, recent transplant from extreme northern MN to the SW Oregon coast. I relocated to take a new job, as I was sick of living in a less than 250 person town with no amenities in MN...Coos Bay/North Bend is much larger...not to mention no -45 degree nights in the winter! Forestry in Oregon is a whole different animal than the upper Midwest...the trees here are amazing.

Hmmm...suppose before I go any further I should mention I no longer have my Ranger, as the head gasket decided to go back in early January...the day after I got back from spending Xmas with the family in MN...lovely start to the new year really. I had hints something was going on...for the last year+...but I was hoping to make the truck last until I could get a down payment for a newer one saved up...didn't happen.

In fact, my Ranger ran me about $2500 in repairs in the last year...more than what I had to borrow for the down payment on the loan for my 'new' used 2006 4-banger Escape (and I feel like such fricking soccer mom--yuck)...my options were limited at the Ford dealership here in town when I brought the truck in for repairs and figured out what was going on...ugh.

Long story short...loved my Ranger, bought it from an uncle when I finished college in May 2006. Unfortunately, my uncle, though I love him dearly, is a cheapskate and didn't do as good a job with the maintenance as he should have. I took a summer job with the USFS in Idaho in 2006...and on the way there I had to stop in South Dakota and get nearly $2000 worth of work and upkeep done...turns out one of the spark plugs was cracked, the rear shoes were worn to the backing plates, and a list of other stuff that needed to be done. Thanks uncle Fred---wanker.

At any rate, over the almost 5 years I had my truck, I spent over $8500 repairing it...intake manifold gasket, constant spark plug changes and combustion chamber cleanings (symptoms of the head gasket)...etc. But it was still my favorite vehicle that I have owned so far...and 2 generations of my family (grandfather and another uncle) worked at the Ranger plant in Saint Paul, MN...so I always liked supporting the home company. I actually managed to get 25 mpg out of that 4.0L once...rubbed it in my (bad) uncle's face too.

I wanted to say thanks to the people here at the Ford Ranger forum for posting such helpful repair links...that was originally what I looked on this website for...4 of the 6 large 194 bulbs behind my dash had burned out and I really didn't want to spend the money to have a shop fix them...the instructions here were flawless and I did it myself in less than 2 hours...thanks everyone! Of course, right after that my truck got me back for it by nose diving...figures!

Oh well, I got my eye on a nice 2008 FX 4.0L Ranger about 4 hrs from here...looks beautiful, 1 owner clean Carfax, and only 28000 miles and they are asking $17000...if they keep dropping the price I might look to trade this Escape in for a down payment and get that instead...it has <drool> leather seats...not something you see to often in a Ranger!

Keep running the Rangers guys and girls...support an American company; my Grandma (bless her 85-yr old heart) always thanks people that buy a Ford product. Have a great day-I'm going to go look at fishing poles...the steelhead are still running here.
