Default Joining the Community

Well I've been reading your forums and figured I'd join in the fun since I've gotten enough out of them so far While this isn't my first Ford, it is my first Ranger, just picked it up a few days ago. Last one was a 86 Mustang which I had a blast with repairing, fixing up then sadly selling but hey gas was way to much with that monster. Moved on to a CRX after that yeah yeah import it was good on gas and I had fun with it too doing the same like the mustang. Then I moved onto my last truck, a S10 which I may had kept had it not been originally a Ohio truck, which boiled down to the frame rusting out so bad it snapped. Found this 96 Ranger for sale and snagged it for 1100 bucks, which may seem like a lot but for just a hair over 100k and receipts from a shop for the new clutch tune up etc I was pretty happy. Just needed a new bed from someone beating it to death cause they pissed off a woman lol but otherwise, mechanically no work is needed. Just the creature comforts and cosmetics. It is the 4 cylinder, and based on how much I drive and gas this is fine with me besides engine swaps to a 6 shouldn't be hard if I get bored later, and it is a 5 speed standard. In three days I already ripped the carpeting out which was due to the first (and only) owner being a smoker (which by the way when I got into this truck I instantly never wanted to smoke again and I've been doing it for about 8 years.. 4 days strong lol no cravings) I knew if I bought it was gonna need some tlc to get rid of the nicotine tar and ash tray smell. The Seats I've torn the covers off washed them with a bissel and cleaned the foam, mostly to make it tolerable till I pick up some gray or black ones which I would like to stick with the 60/40 layout. Instead of Carpeting I went ahead and put bedliner down, makes me think of the humvees which I've enjoyed using so figured why not that and some floor mats and I feel right at home (the army does things to us haha). That's all for now, I do plan on picking up a bed next weekend, then finding a decent shop to have it repainted which will take care of the exterior for now, my girlfriend is begging me to put a body lift on which I probably will avoid unless I swap.. as for the interior, new seats are a given, and possibly a dash (I like the digital dash from that Taurus..but anything with a tach would be fine at this point) and dash shell swap as I like dark interiors, easy to clean. Anyway Nice to be back into a Ford, been a while and glad to join the community!

Yeah I'm happy to be back to ford, I liked my S10 but honestly, if the frame hadn't rusted out, I'd probably be fixing it every week there was always something and even with a replaced then aftermarket cruise control setup it still never worked right.. thing had a curse on it my other two went great. By the way, the how-to section here is awesome, everything I needed to know is here got everything figured out now, just get the windshield wiper and sprayers going (only things wrong mechanically speaking) and I'm set.

Thanks for the warm welcomes I look forward to enjoying my time on here.

Welcome to FRF and back to Ford. Just came back myself and congrats on the cigs. Keep it up and you won't be sorry - I know I'm not after almost 10 years. My first Ranger was a rolling ashtray - smelled pretty bad but I just didn't know it at the time.

they make interior paint and carpet dye you can get it in spray cans a little time and patience and your truck will look like new and the smoke smell will go away
