Default The New Guy

hello one and all! I'm an old guy (32) that's just learning to drive. I've got to buy a truck because while I'm not tall, I'm all torso. It seems that the only vehicles I don't bang my head on while getting into them are trucks, and the Ranger is a truck, an affordable truck. family has some history with several Mazda B series, and while they're not a 'Ranger', they're close enough for me.

I'm going to lurk a while, but I'm going to need help to find the right truck, one that's 4x4 and reasonable for hunting and giving me access to the outdoors! so any recommendations for a '98* or newer Ranger, would be welcome!

so, hai!

*I picked '98 as that's when the EXT model's began to have the 4 doors allowing for easy access to the cab

I guess I should have read the 'read this' sticky before I posted, LOL!

I'm 32, work in for an online computer/tech reseller that's targetted for SMB needs as an account manager (read glorified sales agent).

I have a number of hobbies up here in Canuckistan, the newest being shooting and hunting. took my first moose back in the fall as did my brother. I'm also into astronomy...I have a love of looking at the stars. I also have a passion for coffee. in fact, if I didn't sell computers, I think I'd want to be a well-paid Barista (not that they really exist). I've always enjoyed coffee...but now I'm beginning to expand my horizons even further. new methods of brewing, about to learn how to roast my own green coffee beans and saving up for a prosumer espresso machine.

I don't currently have a truck...I joined here in the hopes of you helping me find what I shoudl buy. as my original post mentioned, while I'm not overly tall, hair under 6ft, I'm all torso and I literally have to contort myself to fit into vehicles. I crack my skull on the doorjam all the time, but for trucks, which I can climb into, meaning there's headspace or van's, which I can crawl into, because they just have space. ;-)

anyhow, I'm stuck in the middle of a city, finding myself capable of a lot more then I thought I would ever be able to be capable of...including driving. simply put, in 98, year I graduated I was in a terrible accident that, for all intents and purposes, ruined my life for the following 10 years. so here I am, 32 years old, with a learners license. planning on taking some driving lessons to get some professional instruction in the hopes I can pass my first test (graduated licensing is the suxs!) where I can drive on my own...which is important as just after I pass the said test, my brother and I go for our second hunt and having two trucks (his is a 2WD B3000) where one is a 4X4, will allow us to go more places then we have before.

so there's my auto-biography!

Welcome top FRF and best of luck with your "schooling" behind the wheel. Learn to drive a stick shift right up front if you are able - you will be happier in the long run if you have the choice.

I did a lot of stick driving on the hwy and the off-roads on my last hunting triip with my brother...so I understand the fundamental's. alas, due to an easy ability to get distracted and flustered, I intend to go with an automatic. while I might not be proficient with stick, I understand the basics...but perhaps I can be converted. being I would also do a lot of city driving, I understand a stick tends to be less then desirable, LOL.

Welcome and +1 on learning on a stick, in the long run it will serve you well. There wont be a car/truck that you cant drive. My ranger is the first automatic vehicle I've ever owned in my 46years(20years of driving).and I still catch myself trying to push the clutch and reach for the shifter when comming to a stop.LOL
