Default Traitor and it feels so good!

Hi.

Im a former jeeper and soon-to-be ranger owner.

Dont get me wrong, i loved my bulletproof inline 6 and solid front axle. But my wife hated my cherokee to the point it had to go.

About me: Im 24 and happily married to my Carolina girl. Im originaly from New Orleans. I hit 6 years of service in the air force this September. I love trucks even though Ive only had 2 door cars most of my life (last rides before the family car was a '05 350z and my '96 Cherokee). I have way too much time at work as an aircraft mechanic.

Which brings us to.... Im getting a ranger to play with as soon as my tax check shows up =)

Ive been looking at the 93-97 models and was wondering if there are any big reasons to get a 3.0 vs 4.0? I love reliability and that will likely be my deciding factor. This truck will probably be 2wd and see only light offroading at best. Would the 3.0 be ok towing a small boat?

i love my 3.0, but people say you get the gas milage of a 4.0 without the power to match. i wish i had a 4.0.

The 3.0 is a good motor, but it doesn't know what the hell to do off the line.

That sums it up.

But even if you consider that, the 3.0 engine is still a good candidate considering how reliable it is.

i had a 3.0 in my Probe and it was damn near bulletproof. but i love the power my 4.0 gives me in my '11.

Yeah I would highly suggest the 4.0, mainly for more power. Mine gets about 20mpg on the highway. My 4.0 has 187000 miles, my buddies has 200000 and both are still going very strong and have plenty of power. Ive never had a mechanical problem with it.
