I am doing the paint on in the spring . The liner is plastic and makes stuff slide all over for one thing . I like the paint on as you do it once and it can be realatilvely cheap versus a liner . I think I paid $100.00 for the kit .

In addition, plastic bedliners hold water and dirt in the bed, underneath the liner, eventually causing rust. When I took mine off, there were twigs, rocks, leaves, everything, and some surface rust.

I used a roll-on herculiner kit. It's not bad, but it's not as durable as I would have liked it to be. I am going to give it a few more layers in spring.

On my older trucks I had the same issue with the plastic liners as well ....

I heard that too about the amount to put on , but I'll do the same thing . I don't use the bed that much but more for protection . I'll prob do about 2 or 3 coats and see how tough it is .. Good points !

Some people are probably going to be against this but my truck will mostly be a highway cruiser so the box would have that much wear except for bikes and camping gear. As for the Spray on fading, I have a tonneau cover so it should protect it too.

Hey guys, I've had my truck for almost a week and I have been loving it. I haven't even thought twice about my purchase (wanted intially a tacoma) but one thing I recognized is that 2wd is higher off the ground then other Ranger of the same era (2006+) that are also 2wd. Please not that my truck is still stock. Don't get me wrong I love the extra height, but I wonder why that is. Did they change something in the suspension recently?

The sport model 2WD sits about the same height as the 4WD. Its kinda like the older EDGE models like mine. Mine is 2WD but sits the same as a 4WD. It basically has the same suspension as a 4WD.

and in case you are still considering the DIY bedliner this is a great How-To: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/exter...-bedliner.html

According to ford.ca (http://www.ford.ca/app/fo/en/trucks/ranger.do#) The 2wd sport sits at 6.7 inches as for the 4x4 sits at 7.4 inches. But to clarify my Ranger sport sits higher then higher Ranger sport that are also 2wd. Is there something that I am missing?

Thanks for the link of the spray on bedliner

Just went to a Ford Dealership for my appointment to have my tailgate cable changed. I stated to the technician that my clutch was starting to squeak and if it was possible to lubricate it in the process. He said no problem. Waited the 45 mins for the work to be done when the technician says my truck is ready,

I asked him if everything went ok,

he said yes no problem. I went to look at my truck tailgate, but could not properly open it since the truck was backed up near a snow bank. So i left and would wait until I got to my parents place. I could not check to see if the clutch was resolved since it only squeaks when the cab is warm.

I got to my parents place and my mom wanted to get some parts so we took my truck and sure enough, the clutch starts squeaking again. Pick up the parts and made my way home. When I got home, my dad checked my tailgate cable only to find that the it wasn't fixed.

I immediately drove back to the dealership, and asked them why my tailgate wasn't fixed, they said that ford put out a broadcast stating that dealerships should replace tailgate cable if there is problem in length. This broadcast was sent out 4 days before my appointment. Then asked if the technician checked my clutch, he said no he did not, he found that the squeaking wasn't a mechanical problem

I stated, that it doesn't matter if its not a mechanical problem, it was an aesthetic problem that was more annoying and that i simply asked that they lube it. he said that I should do it myself, wow great service, drove a half hour for no resolution and ended up fixing the clutch myself and my tailgate is still of level, 5 more years of this great service to go on warranty, I think not, I think I will try my luck at another dealership that does not waste my time. What do you guys think?

The only good news from this day is that my bedliner is only gonna cost $200 through NAPA

Wow i thought i had it bad, i see i'm not alone.

Haven't said it to ya yet, so welcome to FRF!

In my personal experience, after visiting 4 dealerships, they are almost all on the same level. One was a total thief, the three others were ignorant bastards. It's best to tell the mechanic what needs to be done and how to do it before you drop your keys, or they'll look for weeks and not find shit.

Of course, ford will not take responsability for its dealerships, they'll pay the fake time spent on your truck and that's it.

It's my first ford that i bought new, and it'll be the last for sure.

My family has been getting Fords since the late 80's -early 90's. We found that the sales department is great, but the service department sucks. They always try to find ways to add costs to your bill, like charging a ridiculous rate when they decide to change your windshield wipers without asking first.

That's unusual for ford service to tell you to do work. They normally fix any problem as long as its under warranty. If you have the warranty, you might as well use it. The only problems your truck should, because it's new, would be normal wear and tear, so they really can't sell you anything that isn't necessary.

If you don't want to use the warranty, and can't do some of the work yourself, find a good, local, trustworthy mechanic. Ask friends and family who they use. I just had my truck in to my mechanic becasue I thought the front brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. A dealership would just go ahead and change them. My mechanic saw there was nothing wrong and the brakes still had alot of life on them, so he just cleaned the accumulation of brake dust, dirt, and rust. He saved me alot of unneccessary spending.

recent update on the squeaky clutch issue. My salesman called me at home to ask me how servicing went because he got the news that I had ask the number for Ford Canada since i was unhappy with how things turned out. so he asked me what exactly what happened so when i explained to him what happened, he wasn`t to happy with how they dealt with the situation and he told he would talk to the guys in service. Well this morning i got a call from the service guy formally apologizing about the clutch and he has offered me a free inside and out truck wash whenever I chose it. Way to salesman, he is good guy!
