Hey everyone. I wanted to make a post to introduce myself (and to get the auto reminder to introduce myself off! LOL). I actually signed up with the forum back in July 2010 when I bought my Ranger. I was pretty busy so took me a while to get to this step.
A little bio: I reside just north of Houston, TX. and had a used car lot for about 7 years. ObamaMotors killed me with the great "cash for clunkers" program so got out of the car business. Lost about everything, wife and I were sharing her car (yes CAR) for transportation. Opened up a U-Haul rental business to help with bills. Started installing hitches under a carport. Built up the business and started selling online. Just kind of grew from there. Dropped U-Haul and went direct with several manufacturers. Became a pretty good provider of hitches, towing accessories, programmers, and most anything aftermarket.
Last year I was able to store up enough cash to buy a clunker. Then wondered on my Ranger. A 2004 with only 63K miles, 4x4, extended cab, XLT. I was thinking it was going to be way out of my price range. It booked for over 10K. The guy selling it was told by a potential buyer that it was wrecked and the frame was damaged. He was just wanting to get rid of it "as is". It drove straight and smooth, so we made a deal for about a third of book. It has a clear title so I took it to my frame guy I used when in the car business. All that was wrong was the front driver's frame horn and a diamond frame shock. Fixed that with $400.
Anyway, all I had done to it was took off the custom Leer shell and I put in a Alpine indash I had at the shop. Couple of amps and some speaker mods. I am old, but still like to hear my music.
In November while stopped at a red light, my Ranger and I were given a 60 MPH Chevy Malibu ennama! Guy had insurance, but both are still in recovery. I had to have my shoulder operated on and the insurance tried to total my Ranger. They said the repair would be a little over $9K, so they wanted to total it and offer me a bit above the repair. I took the Ranger with a NON SALVAGE title agreement and the repair money. I fixed it enough to drive before my surgery and once I am up to it will start the transformations. I plan on making it my companies project truck this year. We donate to the Wounded Warriors Project so we are going patriot theme.
