Default New member with first Ranger!

Hello everyone and I hope you are all having a GREAT holiday season!

This looks like a great forum!

Just purchased a 2003 Ranger Edge regular cab 3.0 V6 automatic 2wd pickup truck for my (soon to be 16 yr old) son. It has 91k miles and runs very well.

I'm a total goober when it comes to anything mechanical and have been looking throughout this site for various information. I do have a couple of questions and wasn't sure where to look on this forum to find the correct answers.

Question 1: We'd like to level the body on the truck so it doesn't look like a dragster. I'm assuming that adjusting the torsion bars is the simplest and most effective way to accomplish this task. What are some of the consequences that will occur with changing the torsion bars? Is there a better, more effective way to level the body?

Question 2: It currently has 225/70R/16 tires and wheels. We'd like go go with a larger tire without having to modify any suspension or have to cut anything. What size tires could we use?

Question 3: Of course my son wants a new "system" (stereo) for his new ride. I know that systems can cost as much as you want to spend, but we'd like to stay within a $500-$600 budget. What suggestions would you folks have for this?

Thanks for any help or suggestions you might give! Your time is greatly appreciated.

Have a fantastic day!

welcome, if your not good with mechanical stuff, are you good with electrical? if not take it to a good audio shop and tell them what you told us, and for the other stuff you should use the search button, a lot of the guys here are tired of answering the same questions over and over... but torsion bar lift is safe, a ton of the guys here have done it, and it will be fine, as long as you get an allignment after you do it, and its simple, even a goober with basic tools could do it. idk about the tires but there is a thread on here about it.

welcome to FRF, Fred!
yes, adjusting the torsion bars is the simplest way to "level out" the truck.
there are no consequenses unless you max the bars. then you MIGHT have front suspension issues. Also, get an allignment after the bars have been cranked.
Since the edge 2wd and 4wd have the same ride height (except for tire sizes) you can go up to a 285. My edge has a 265, which to me fit perfectly.

Im a new member and i have a quick question. I started to adjust my torsion bars today and found out that the driver side adjustment bolt was already maxed. While the passenger side had plenty of adjustment left. The distance to the wheel fender was the same side. Is this normal? and are suppose to be uneven?

Welcome! I adjustined my T bars and the only side effect i encountered was a little stiffer ride but that was to be expected. As far as tires go i would go with 285's (if your going to do the T bars). I dont say this only cuz i have them I say it because the 285 looks better on the EDGE/4x4 trucks witht the fender flares IMO. If i didnt have the fender flares i would go with a 265 but I think the 265 with the flares looks a little sunk in. Just my .02 Not sure if the offset on those wheels is the same as factory so you may be good with the 265's if those stick out a little further..

So it normal for the driver side adjustment bolt to be already maxed. While the passenger side had plenty of adjustment left?
