Post New Guy from NE PA!

Hi everyone! I've been reading many posts here in the past few days, and have to say this forum is one of the reasons I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a used Ranger which I will pick up this Saturday.

Anyway, my name is Jimmy and live in the mountains of NE PA. Found a 97 XLT Supercab for sale a few days ago, went out yesterday to take a look and made an offer for it. Seller was asking $3,200 and after a little back and forth we settled on $2,700 for the truck. Here is the info:

97 XLT Supercab; 4.0 V6 short bed 4x4
114,000 miles
New light truck tires, brakes, rotors, brake lines, ball joints done before he pulled it off the road last spring. (Bought a new truck)
States it was garaged kept since he owned it (he bought used from dealer in 99) until this past year when his new truck took the space.
He did all his own maintenace, has original owners book, ect...

I was looking for something to simply get around in (retired but still playing music) so wanted something to be able to haul, decent on gas and not cost me an arm and a leg. Had two vehicals up to this past summer, and thought we could get by with just one, but wife is still working and using my 06 Santa Fe. It was ok during the summer as I just rode my Harley everwhere, but can't do that in the winter up here!

The truck looks decent enough (it's Red by the way) interior looks real good, everything seems to work (test drove it only on the back dirt road as it has no plates) all lights worked, started right up after sitting outside in the teens for the past two weeks and had almost instant heat, which kinda surprised me as the owner stated he had not started it in a couple weeks. Engine compartment looked ok...couldn't see any leaks, it does however have some cancer coming through in a couple spots on the bed. Dent in the tailgate (still closes fine) and on the drivers side rear wheel well where he said his wife got hit from behind a couple of years ago.
So, with that introduction, I hope to enjoy speaking with many of you in the future, and hope that any problems I may/may not have can be resolved with the minimum of $$$. It's always a crap shoot when you buy a used vehical, but I'm hoping I did the right thing. It was really cold and getting dark when I went to see the truck, so didn't get a real good chance to look under it or anything. I guess my biggest worry is the rust coming through in a couple of spots, but the truck is 14 years old and it is the NE of Pennsylvania so I guess that is to be expected to an extent. I'll post a few pics once I get it home, and hopefully don't have to bug many of you with problems.

Just got the Ranger home, it rode and drove great back from the sellers...put 62 miles on her and filled up the tank on the way back.

So far...so good...

Here are some pics as promised just after I put her in the garage.
