Thumbs up Whats happenin fellas?!

Hi, my name is David.
As you can tell i am new to this forum. Actually this is my first time to be on a forum. I've always heard good things about this forum. So, i decided to join so that i could benefit from my fellow ranger enthusist. I own a 2004 ford ranger (of course) regular cab i4 2.3 w/ 5 speed manual. I have big plans for this beauty, but the problem is i don't know what route to take. Since i live in Mississippi i would like to lift it (slightly) and put the new monsterous 5.0 in the anemic four banger's place. With that said, i don't want to be like all the other fellow rednecks, here in the dirty south; in fact i planned on doing a 4" DJM drop in the front and have a four link suspension in the rear (5-6" drop in the rear) with the new 5.0. So, as you can see i have a pretty big delimma! Both ideas have their pros and cons! Im gonna post my plans and i would truely love to here from y'all and eventually try to post some renderings of each project.

Both projects will revolve around the new 5.0 and t56 trans. I also forgot to tell you that this will be an everyday driver! So, please keep that in mind!
for the lift version: Fabtech 3" spindle lift w/ leveling kit in the rear (probably throw that out for a four link to handle the power and torque of the 5.0) and fox fluid shocks, with mickey thompson 17" side biters and mickey thompson 31x10.50 baja claws. Since the truck currently is a two wheel drive i plan on using the stock front axle with a torsen t2differential in the front and rear axles.

for the lowered version: 4" DJM drop in the front with custom four link. Again i will use the 5.0 and the t56. Possibly keep the 7.5 housing and use the torsen t2 differential; if not i will be using ProAm ford 9" off road housing and use the torsen t2 3.73 ratio. Plan on using the gt500 svt wheels (19x9 front, 20x10 rear). With those wheels, i plan on using a larger disc (naturally plan on using rear disc with four piston calipers) for the front i plan on using a six piston caliper (calipers either brimbo or wilwood). Will use coil-overs for all four points. will make own custom aftermarket front valience with chin splitter (fiber glass) and a custom fiber glass hood. With this project i will focus on interior alot more! Possibly use gt 500 leather seats and swad (black) a large portion of the interior.

Guys i hope you like what i plan on doing with my my truck and i hope y'all help me with making the right decision. And keep in mind that this will not be a short build. Its just gonna be me and a few friends doing all of this! hope to hear from y'all soon!

P.S. I decided that whatever project is liked the most then I will post a drawn rendering, and give you guys an idea of what i plan on doing!



ben10 gave a great suggestion a pre runner and a lot of my buddies think i should go the same route, but use the new 3.7 instead. The rationale for that is that it would be less weight on the front end. But, instead of a two wheel drive pre runner, i still plan on a making it 4x4. I mean guys i live in MS and as all of the US knows we love playing in the mud while wearing a coveralls and driving a tractors. hahaha

if its 4x2, i say drop it, no point in lifting it unless your gonna make a nasty prerunner.

Yeah a couple of buddies told me the same thing, but instead of using the 5.0 they think i should use the new 3.7-better clearance and less weight on the front....that is an option, i mean shit that the 3.7 has the same base power as the old 4.6 plus its aluminum and has Ti-VCT, meaning i'll get better economy when not hitting it hard. But, I do want to convert it to a 4x4. I live in MS, i need for my deer camp. ha
