Old Brit in NC with his first Ford Ranger....
First anything actually. I moved to the US (and stole on of your womenfolk) in 2002, but having come from a satellite of London I'd never actually gotten round to learning to drive (it's bloody expensive to just learn, never mind run a car back home). By the time I got round to it, it was 2008 so my 2001 Ranger XLT is my first automobile, at age 37!
I was given it by my father-in-law with ~17k miles on the clock, a fresh set of fluids (I think) and a nice bed cover (and lots of tree sap). It's an automatic 2wd 3.0 with a hard bed-cover and it has turned out to be the perfect vehicle for me.
However, as I am coming to this whole car thing very late from a family that always used cabs/buses/trains I am missing little stuff (like air in tires!) so any tips on what I can expect in the way of problems would be great. It's got ~28k miles on it right now and will need a new set of rear tires pretty soon, but everything else seems fine. I'm thinking about a grille guard/bull bar addition due to the plague of deer we have around here most nights, but other than that the only planned mod is a better sound system (the stock single CD player is lacking in grunt).
