New guy on the forums
Hi all, just bought my first ever truck and it's a 2001 Ranger 4x4 XLT 4.0. It had 99K miles on it, got a real nice deal, runs like a dream. It's a 5 spd standard transmission. Had it about a month and a half now and am very pleased with my purchase. Almost went with a Dodge Dakota and had lots of folks steer me to Ford and the Ranger. Really happy I got the Ranger. Started doing some modifications to it which I'll be happy to post pictures of soon (mostly just changing the look of it at this point). Just a question, and please pardon my complete newbie question, I was viewing the Ranger pics on the site and I see some that have the 4x4 OFFROAD decals on the backs of the trucks. Mine simply says 4x4. I'm guessing there's something different from the 4x4 OFFROAD and just a "regular" 4x4? If there is, would someone mind explaining the differences to me? I know, total newbie question but y'all seem like a friendly bunch and hoping someone will help me out here. I've yet to take this truck off road anywhere, just curious what my limitations are if there is a difference between the two. I bought the truck for work transportation, after last winter here in WV I have finally broken down and purchased a 4wd vehicle (always drove fwd cars to this point). Really unsure if I will take this truck off road much in either case but was really curious what the differences might be if I decide to do so and if there are things I need to limit the truck to if I do go off road with it. nope nothing diff just ford put offroad on some buuuut if it says FX4 offroad or FX4 LEVEL II than it is diff these fx4's have beefier rear axles skid plates and the interior is a diff color. oh and welcome to frf
