Trust me, I really wanted one and thought Id be able to get a good deal on one right now but it still was going to end up costing me more than I was paying for my current car, insurance, and fuel.

Talking 98 Ford Ranger -- Runs excellent! -- But POWERLESS

Hi. I drive a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 Liter 4X4. It is my second Ranger. My first had the 4.0 liter. Definitely workhorse power in both; I use them and hard. I also keep meticulous care of them.

My suggestion would point you towards the 4.0 liter though. The topend of the 3.0 liter is very "boggish". I have had mine (3.0 liter) fully mainained, added a straight Flowmaster exhaust, a K&N Cold Air Intake Kit and it improved it some, but it still has a week topend torque. My only dislike about my truck. I should say that in it's defense I did have 31" Yokohamas off-road tires put on. It takes torque to get those things moving. :-)

I'm probably going to chip (Jet Performance) it.

Hope this helps your with your decision making.
