First Vehicle, Ford Ranger!

Hello all, I just picked up a 1997 Ranger xlt 4.0 4x4 Auto off a guy for $1,500! It's my first vehicle as I'm only 16 years old.

I can't wait to start customizing and decking this truck out for some good old mudding with friends.

Just wondering though, what are some relatively cheap things I can do for now while I'm saving up for a nice set of all-terrain tires.

welcome, nice buy. i would highly suggest doing the throttle cable mod, there is a good description of how to do it under the "how to" section

best part is its free ( or close to it)

first off I would change the fuel filter $10, special tool $10( these never get changed enough and it might help you from dropping hundreds on a new fuel pump)

I would check the hangers and shackles on the rear leaf spring. if the truck has been in Maine its whole life i guarantee they are trashed (they might have been changed already)

I also would check and replace any fluids that you can........coolant, transfer case, rearend, brake, power steering

I have already changed the fuel filter, air filter, plugs and wires(idiot had 94' plugs in it...) The body is a little beat up but the guy who we got it off of had his daughter's driving it so it other then the fluke with the plugs its not that bad of condition. I will check the hangers and shackles though, thanks!
