Default Gettin' Interested

Hey everyone, so I'm looking into my first car that will be my own and I've gone through so many different cars and trucks and right now the ranger is catching my eye. It seems very fairly priced & reliable & and a good community to help me love my truck for as long as I have it. I want to buy a truck that runs well and is reliable--while in the mean time and i can work on it and improve it as much as I want. The ranger seems like a good truck for this. Please, if you could, give me any thoughts on good years and ideas for me if you have any (: Thanks!

- Marcel

I'm kinda stuck on that one. I'm worried to drop it any because I don't see too many lowered trucks that I really like, and I don't think I have the means to do one right. I think I'm more inclined to do a small lift and a few things to help the truck be a bit quicker.

Welcome to FRF. My opinion, if you aren't ever going to use 4wd, even if you decide to lift it, go for the 2wd. Just like STL said stay away from the torsion bar trucks if you are going low. I would also say if you don't go off road go lower, it isn't as hard on some of the newer trucks as it is on the 93 to 97's like mine; although I have a 4wd. Stay away from the 3.0 at all costs, get the 4 cylinder or the 4.0 V6. As for transmissions, the manual and auto suck in these trucks for the most part. Pick what you like. If you get the extended cab, get 4 doors, the 2 door is a pain to get people in and out of, if you even put people in the back, which I know I don't, plus it gives you more room. Search the threads, do some research, welcome to the club. We love our Rangers, and we use and abuse them on a regular basis, coming from a GM guy, (first truck that I still own is a GMC Sonoma) this is one of the hands down best trucks I have ever owned, there isn't a way you can go wrong with this truck. I can't speak for the square bodies, but 93 and newer, awesome.
