Default Hello From IL

Hey guys and gals,

New to the forums (and Rangers). Just picked mine up about a month ago or so to get me to and from work. I work in Computer Security for the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign.

I got an 03 4cyl 2.3L XL. Reg cab, 6' bed. Standard tranny. Nothing special, but hopefully I can make it all my own over a little bit of time.

It's all stock right now, but I'm hoping to change that here. I am looking at replacing the Head Unit (waiting for it to show up in the mail - Pioneer DEH 3100UB). It's nothing crazy, but there is a great lack of radio stations around here so I wanted to use my iPod to listen to music.

Also looking to replace the factory speakers (guy I bought it off kinda put them close to their deathbed anyways).

Lookin at a K&N CAI to hopefully give her a little more oomph.

Wanna convert it to power locks with keyless entry, too.

Got some other ideas, mostly still pretty nebulous and undecided on.

Welcome to FRF Sam

If you're looking for a new intake, make sure it's a CAI and not a short ram, many make that mistake. The short ram will take its air in the engine bay, close to where the original intake is, whereas a real CAI will take it in much further down, away from the engine's warm air. If you plan to use your truck during winter, you might want to build one custom as a factory CAI will be placed so low that it'll be vulnerable to snow and ice.

Thanks for the advice, I'd never heard that. I am not going to get it right away so I'll have to do more research.

Welcome to FRF, you got some great plans for your truck! Do you plan on Lifting? Lowering?

Ya I have plenty of plans for my baby, adding more plans daily (which definitely is faster than I can pay to have them done...) but I'm not really into lifting/lowering. Looking at a few performance mods; CAI, new muffler, and maybe headers, and stuff like head unit/speakers. Not too sure what else, this is the first vehicle I've ever bought on my own so I"m just getting really into working on it. Lemme know if you have any good ideas.
