Hi:
I have a 03 Ranger 4.0 six with 91,000 miles on the clock. It has been a great vehicle. Recently it has had intermittent starting problems. The first time was a couple of weeks ago when I was running errands. I got out and came back a few minutes later and it wouldn't start. It would crank and the engine would sputter but not run. It remined me of the way and engine sounds if the timing chain jumped a tooth. Called AAA. While waiting I tried it every 10 minutes or so and about the third time I tried it, it started normally and ran fine. Obviously not the timings chains. All was well until yesterday and my wife was driving it. She came out of a store and the same thing happened. She let it "rest" about ten minutes and tried it again. It started and ran fine. I tried it in the driveway and it happened again. Again it started and ran fine after a few minutes rest. Both time there was no check engine light and there are no trouble codes when I hookup my scanner. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
