Smile New from Reading PA

Glad to find this forum. I inherited a 1990 Ranger from my Dad when he passed away. I swore I would always keep it as a remembrance of him. I've had it 7 years now and it's my daily driver. It's stock 2.9l V6 5 speed w/ AC 2wd approx 130K miles. I'll post a picture later. I had some bodywork done last year on the rear wheel wells and had it painted. Unfortunately while they did a good job, the color came out darker than I wanted and I'm not happy with it. Right now I'm bored with it, but I do want to keep it in honor of my dad, plus having a pickup is very handy. I want to buy a project car for fun, but started thinking instead, why not work with what I have. The first thing I need is a new drivers seat. I've had 3 back surgeries and 1 neck surgery and sitting in the worn out factory seat is torture. It has a split bench. I'm fine with leaving the passenger side as is but putting in a nice bucket for the driver. What do you recommend?

From there after I post the picture maybe you can suggest some low budget body / engine mods to cure my boredom. I want to either add some striping and or accents to compliment the color (again wait for picture) or bite the bullet and have it repainted again. I wanted to paint it screaming zonker yellow but compromised with my wife and went for what was supposed to be a kind of copper / brown. Problem is in the end it turned out much darker and of a red/brown. The only time it looks like the color I wanted is in the bright sun. So that's it for now. While I guess I'm a Jr. member I'm 48 and on disability from all of the back surgeries, so I can't work on it as much as I'd like to, and money is tight. But I have a great mechanic and brother-in-law who can help with the mechanical things. Thanks for listening Dave

BTW The name Jays90ranger is because my Dads name is Jay, it will always be his truck.

Welcome to the forum, Dave. The way things are going for me, we might have some back surgery stories to share with each other soon.

The situation with your dad was unfortunate, but I'd do the exact same thing as you and keep the truck as long as I could, and for the same reasons.

You're right, we'll have to see some pics to determine what kind of cosmetic mods would work on your truck. But there are always fun things to do with a Ranger! Again, welcome aboard, and keep posting!

Welcome! You can get just about any seat to fit, just requires some custom seat brackets. Not sure how the earlier models fit, but in the later models you can swap in Explorer buckets.

OK I took some pics and uploaded the images. The color actually came out a bit better in the pictures than in real life. In real life it's kind of a dull brown. In the sun it's a nice Rustish Brown with small metal flake, but only in good sun. Like I said in my opening post I'm looking for ideas to make it more appealing on a budget. I definitely need to add a better drivers seat due to my bad back, and the failing springs / stuffing of the stock seat. Has anyone ever added a Recaro type seat or other custom seat? Also if I don't due a full repaint of it, I'd like ideas as for what type & color of striping / second color would go good with this color. Also other small scale body ideas like a hood scoop, Front Flair / Air-Dam, etc. I'm open to anything as I'm bored with it, but want to keep it in honor of my Dad and because it's better to work with what you know you have, than buy another project car that you don't know the condition. My Dad really took care of this, and I recently put bodywork and paint into it. I've also really kept up the maintenance. I was wrong on the mileage, It's 150K miles. Thanks, Dave

Are you looking at any suspension mods? Higher or lower? Or any certain look to it, that will help with ideas. Firstly get some new headlights or that headlight defogging stuff...
