i am going to try to and not get to pissy or soap box stand for too long...
I grew up in a small Texas dairy and ranch town. Almost no crime, folks knew each other and things were nice and clean. Even the local politicians were
nearly tolerable. Not perfect, of course. In the late 1990s the California invasion started. Things went down hill quick after that. A guy from CA tossed out his cigarette butt on his way in town one afternoon. Someone reported him and his vehicle description and CA plate, but they never caught him that I know of. The dairy and ranch I worked at went up were in flames soon after. Being a dry year and a windy day made it bad. Me and a few buddies spent till midnight trying to salvage what we could and trailer the surviving animals and dig fire breaks. Horses burned alive that were trapped. If you have ever heard a animal "scream" in pain you know what I mean when I say it was awful not being able to help. Fire burned for a few more hours. The fire depts. did a good job keeping it from spreading and getting to other property. Almost everything planted was ruined and with no graze / pasture land all the surviving stock of animals was sold for less than value. Farm trucks and a tractor were burned down to metal with no glass, plastic, rubber or anything left that was not metal. The big city news was quoted saying something to the tune of," why the big deal it was only some old fence posts, barns and grass that burned, not stores or homes". It was the work and bread plate for about 4 families and 3 generations. That has and will stick in my mind as California coming to Texas. Now, in 2021- that same town has seven lanes of piss poor drivers that are rude, stupid and convinced what they are doing is worth all the other lives on the road. Rush hour on 635 is about equal to the crazy drivers and traffic in my home town now. My home has been broken in twice since about 2005, with four attempts. One guy came back knowing I had a shot gun waiting... truck broken in and several murders, rapes etc. It is not a "bad area". Only six blocks from the police station! So, I have to be fair. All of that is not the fault of California or folks moving to Texas from other places. I am sure some of them are very nice people. Much of the down hill change is just small towns growing up. But, we used grow up with more manners, sense and respect before the influx. That concludes my rant and soap box stand lol. My grandfather used to say if you @#$% your sleeping bag, you still get to sleep in it. I often feel like all those fleeing the crazy taxes, laws and marxist style leadership of other states that come to Texas should have to stay in the sleeping bag a while lol.
