Default Hello from Longview Washington! - '98 Ranger XLT

Hello everyone. I'm Mike and i just recently picked up a nice 1998 Ranger XLT. Runs great, looks great but... it does have a few issues...

Power windows - When first purchased, they worked only when you turned the key on but not when you started her up, two days later they worked all the time for about a week, now they no longer work at all...

When first purchased the Dome light had the bulbs missing so I installed them and the light would not turn off... Now the Dome light wont work at all. Checked the fuse, #26 in the passenger fuse box, looked good.

Airbag light in dash is flasing code 27, says its the passenger door switch... Sprayed latch liberally with WD40 to no avail, yet...

That's about it... Looking forward to learning about this newer model than my first Ranger... Any input is welcome, please know I'm readung any pertinent posts I can find concerning the issues I described above... Thank you in advance!

Mike, welcome to FRF from another Mike. For the power windows turn the key to the on position & jiggle the key & see if they start working. You might have a bad ignition switch or the tumbler in the column.

Howdy from just outside of Portland in Sandy!

I have no answers for your finicky windows.

An always on dome light is a common problem. Usually liberally spraying the door latches with a lubricant and opening and shutting the doors a dozen times cures this 9 times out of 10. For those two remaining, it's typically a bad door switch on the latch.

27 code is NOT a passenger door switch....but good on ya for Googling, although a bad Google result. 27 actually is a burnt out passenger airbag off light at the switch. Technically the correct fix is a new pass airbag switch but it can be handled by soldering in a resister and LED in place of the factory bulb. The switch is still available from the Ford Parts counter. 27 is the most common restraints system fault. See this link for more info...
