Default ford ranger of doom

Whats up guys. I am Charlie, I own a 2004 Ford Ranger XLT 4L V6 two door extended cab 6ft bed 5spd auto 4x4. I love my truck. The only thing I have against it is its a pansy automatic and it has 4x4. I can't wait to buy a new Ranger.

Welcome to FRF! What do you have against the 4x4??? What are you looking for in a new ranger? 2wd stick?

My main problem with the 4x4 is I don't use it. The 4x4 ranger is also higher off the ground than a 4x2 ranger. The greater height means greater wind resistance. Which means bad fuel economy. I get about 19 mpg highway and 15 city. I really only use my ranger for the daily commute. By comparison my dad has a F-250. It gets like 12mpg highway and 8 city. However, he needs that badass V8 for work. I mean some people actually need the 4x4 option. People that live up north with heavy snow and ice. Or people that like off roading. Its just useless for me.

My next ranger I want preferably brand new. Standard cab with 7ft bed, 5spd manual, 2.3L I4, bedliner, radio with cd player/mp3,and rear slide window. I was considering the 4L V6 with the standard cab, but for some reason Ford doesn't offer that engine with the standard cab and 5spd manual. (got me on that one) The 2 door extended cab is what I have now and that is useless. Its basically impossible to get back there. Four door extended cab comes only with the 4L V6. The 4 door is more expensive and only has a 6ft bed option.

Yea the 4L Reg Cab 5 speed is rare, can be special ordered IIRC. I feel you on the 2 door ext. cab. That is what I have now, and I had the 4 door version before, was soo much nicer.

Welcome to the forum Charlie!
You're the only person I've ever heard that doesn't want four wheel drive or tall ride height.....

I don't mind the height itself. It's the wind resistance caused by the height.

You might want to post that in the appropriate thread, not in someone elses intro thread.
