Default Hey All

Hey all, my name is Will. I live near the Louisville, KY area and recently got my first Ranger from a guy at my church. It is a 1996 XLT with the 2.3L and 5 speed. It's my commuter vehicle so my goal with it is to get the best gas mileage possible! Already did the dual plug mod found here on the FRF and am looking at other methods to squeeze those mpg's! any insight and assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

- Always run premium fuel
- Always let it warm up a couple minutes before pulling off
- I'd suggest switching to a synthetic oil, I prefer the Mobil1 or Valovoline
- Maintain 55-65 MPH on freeway
- Dont hot foot it from stop light to stop light
- stay up on all the maintenance
- NGK Plugs/wires (my opinion) if nothing else stay stock
- Monitor air pressure, DON'T stick to the 35PSI rule
- Maybe invest in high resistance tires

All else fails.., Buy a Prius take off the hatch. MPG and pick-up bed Achievement unlocked !!

I have been running some mid grade and been running 39 PSI on the tires. I'm going to be getting an oil change soon so I'll more than likely do a high mileage synthetic. I'll look into the plugs and wires and see if that'll help. I did the dual spark plug mod and that has helped as well. I also got a free A.R.E. bed cover and that has really helped out with the drag. At this time I am right below the first quarter tick and am at 140 miles so far. Keeping my fingers crossed! I actually borrowed a first gen Prius before the truck was given to me. I miss that gas mileage. Thanks for the reply my friend!
