Default Want a Ranger

Hi. Since I've been driving an old 2003 4.0 auto. 2wd where I work I love this little truck. It's the oldest vehicle we have and was just sitting and me being in maintenance asked if I could get it running again and use it myself for getting around the Park. They laugh at me for not wanting to use the new 350 series trucks but this little truck is so easy to get around and see out of and most important to me the easy ability to reach something in the bed which to me this new stuff is next to impossible and to me almost laughable.
I have decided I want one for my own personal use and want an older one preferably just 2 wheel drive and am wondering which models 2003 and older are most trouble prone or to stay away from.
Like to have a 98 or older since here in Md. it is considered Historic and no inspection or emission tests are required.
But I do love the 2003 ext. cab auto 2wd 4.0 I've been using. Just wondering about auto or stick and 4 or 6 cyl common problems. I can do the work myself as far as that goes.

Default Re: Want a Ranger

I love my '98 4.0 XLT. I've had it since '99 when it was 23K miles old. It has its quirks, but all in all I love it. None of the work I've done, or had to have done was out of line for it's age. I just wish it could learn to give itself a bath and wheel scrub!
