Default Hello,,I'm doin a little cheatin,,,,

Yes,, doin some cheatin cause I can't seem to find the info I sorely NEED to get my 1984 Bronco II running,,Hopin I don't upset anybody,,,,LOL.
I recently got a 1984 BII with the 2.8, 5 speed, 4X4 with A/C. The trk has 85,456 real miles as per the PO.
Trk had been parked since 1999 and the local thieves "borrowed" the starter, starter solenoid, ignition coil and the rear driveshaft,,,,,,,sheesh,!!
Reason the trk was parked is the trans got stuck in reverse and they couldn't get out of gear so they backed it to the carport and there its been since. I found the 2 plastic pieces on shifter rod were broken and shifter would just wallow all over the place and not move trans at all. I found a used shidter rod off a 86 BII but the 4 bolt section where the shifter goes is some different than mine. On mine, I can move the selector rod in trans back and forth and sideways but seems like there should be some spring tension on selector rod to return to center, from 5rh gear or reverse,??? I think they broke more than just the plastic on the shifter rod but ,,,,,,,this is why I am askin here.

Does anybody here have a Ford shop manual that shows the parts and pieces in the shifter area,,?? I went to the local Ford dealer and asked if I could look at their manuals,,,and they told me they would fix my trk,,but did NOT loan out their manuals,,,talk bout some AH's,,,,
Any help here,??? And Many Thanks,,,!!!

Joe, welcome to FRF. Check out LMC truck, they have a lot of stuff for Bronco ?II's.

According to aGoogle search the shifter on a 5 speed goes right into the top of the trans, can you take a pic & post it of the linkage you are referring to?.

From one old man to another, any time. That is what we are here for to help each other out. As far as posting the pics you need to host them somewhere either a site like postimage or download them to your computer. Then you could copy them & then add them to your post. Do NOT use Photobucket.

I have done a lot of work to Bronco 2's over the years. Yet thankfully I never had to mess with the transmission on any of the one's I worked on.

But I wanted to stop in and say hi and thanks for trying to resurrect that antique. LOL

You should have a TK5 (Toyo Kogyo 5 speed) trans on the '84. They were used through 1987, but less common than the FM145's.

Is this what you're looking at?

Here's some info on ID'ing the different RBV manual transmissions:

THat's it,,,,,,CalebJ,,,Thats it,,,!!! but dang with thet price,,,,whoa,,,,!!!
Well me bein sot of "thrifty" I chucked a piece of Hi-press Delrin in my lathe and rough cut the two pieces that were wore, broke,,,then used my homemade mill attachment and whittled it out to closely resemble the old pieces,,,, I think it is going to work,,,gotta do some more whittlin on the curved part for smoother working inside the plastic housing that bolts to the top of the trans.
I can't figure what the deal is with my new smart phone not wantin to transfer pics to my desk top. For some reason it will not open the charging port to work both ways so win10 is tellin me there no files to download,,,,,,,GRRrrrrrr

Yeah, the prices are insane. Check Craigslist for 1984 ranger and bronco 2 transmissions. Maybe post a wanted ad at all the ranger forums as well if your lathed parts don't work out.

Hey CalebJ,,,,,yeah,, ten four on the insane prices,,,there ain't no way ole Joe is goin to pay them kind of prices IF I can make my own,,,,LOL.
I went back to the local Ford dealer and visited with the friendly parts guy and was able to talk him into lookin a little deeper and he gave me a phone number for a dealer in Iowa that had TWO of the half round plastic "balls" that go on the end of the shifter,,,they "slip" into the gear selector pin (rod) (shaft) in the trans. Ain't that something,,,after he told me two weeks ago, "NLA",,sheesh. I went ahead and called em and I bought BOTH of them, in case somebody here needs one,,,but,,,but,,,I won't inflate MY prices,,,LOL.

Another thing I really need is a pic of the wiring on Driver side fender panel. When the dang thieves stole some engine parts, they CUT the friggin wires so I have NO CLUE as to what goes there. What's really weird, there is a "molded" black plastic, looks like a BIG fusible link that collects 4-- 12 Ga wires plus a 18 Ga Wht / Green wire,,,BUT,,,the end of this molded plastic DOES NOT have any wire ends coming thru the end,,,WTH,,???plus there is an additional 12 Ga wire there that has been cut also,,??? The Chiltons I bought does not show these wiring colors is what is messin me up. I might add,,that there is NO 12 VDC gettin to the ignition key or dash board,,,,,???
I'm thinkin there "was" an ignition module (brain box) there,,???
Sorry for all the questions but am really wantin to put a spark in this engine,,,,,

Have you looked into the Duraspark swap? I think there's still a good tech article over at TRS for it. That's what I did with my '84 years ago and it dramatically simplified the engine compartment wiring.
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...uraspark.shtml

In the meantime, look for an EVTM for that year. It should have a fairly clear diagram of all the electrical and vacuum components to help you sort things out.

Hey CalebJ,,,Yeah,,I have downloaded a copy of thet article,,Great work,,!!
I've gone over it enough times,, I ought to be able to do in my sleep,,,LOL. I have the distributor, ignition module (wiring harness from dist to ign module) coming from a salvage yard in Arizona. I went ahead and just bought the EVTM book you sent the Ebay link for so I will have that for reference. MANY THANKS, Guy,,!!
I prolly should go ahead and strip out the "extra stuff" (don't want to call it out on the web),,,,per the TRS article so trk will be ready for the conversion when the parts get here,,Huh,,???
Again,,,thanks for all your help. Gettin a little excited as looks like it is finally gonna get done,,,,,

Well,,Guys,,,a bit of an update altho it ain't a good update,,,I had "found" the dist, harness and ignition for the Duraspark conversion on Car-Part.com at a yard in Arizona and thought I had bought them and come to find out the guy no longer had em as they crushed most of their older cars/ trks,,,,dang,,!!! So, I'm back to lookin and searchin. I can get a new ignition module from O'Reilly auto but the distributor not available,,,, Summit racing has a possible but it is $181,,,sheesh,,!! Harness from dist to module NLA,,,what to do now,,???
