New member /One owner 06 Ranger
I picked up a 2006 Ranger XLT, 3.slow, automatic, 4x2 super-cab. It was a 1 owner truck from New Mexico, with only 26,000 miles.
As a retire Ford employee, I have had mostly F-250 diesels, but as I no longer have a race car and trailer, I downsized. My 250's were loaded XLT's but this Ranger XLT had nothing on it but CC. I have put PW, PL, Remote entry /w key pad, chrome grill, fog lights, running boards (for the wife), Superchips F5 tuner, and other miscellaneous upgrades on it.
I love the truck, but I am not real excited with the 3.0, even with the better tune installed. I guess I am use to my Powerstrokes, and knew the V-6 would have a lot less power, but this thing is pathetic. It runs fine, and gets decent fuel mileage, but DAMN! I switched to Mobile 1, Iridium plugs, new wires, a hotter coil, and a K-N filter. All my fuel trims are in spec. Mid range is the worse. Just dead between 2,500 and 3,500 rpm. My wife's 2011 Fusion 3.0 will run circles around my Ranger. As I rarely tow anything, and put few miles on it, I guess I'll learn to live with it. I'm not going to replace the motor, but was wondering if porting of the heads would help. Thought about shorty headers, but with stock heads, likely not worth the expense.

Re: New member /One owner 06 Ranger
Welcome to the forums! If you want the 3.0 to show you its power, you need a stickshift. The auto drains it otherwise (I've had a 06 and a 02 3.0 auto and both are dogs but the 03 with a 3.0 I have now feels way more powerful and fast.)
The 3.0 is reliable though, so I hope you enjoy your truck!

Welcome to FRF
What rear end and gear ratio do you have in your truck?

Re: New member /One owner 06 Ranger
It has 3.73 gears. Lower speeds are fine. Plenty of power. Just mid range. Thought about going up to 4.10 s but that would make things worse, as I would run out of rpm range even quicker. Might drop down to 3.55s, but there is so little difference, it may not be worth it.
I'll just keep my eyes open for an extra set of heads and do some port work on them. The guy that did all the porting on my race cars is a magician with heads.
