Green Ford Ranger Owner Says Hello!
Hello Everyone!
My name is Ron, and I am working on a 2000 Ford Ranger (small 4 cyl. w/manual trans.) for my son, who is in the Air Force. He will be coming home in a month, and I have some work I plan to do on the truck for him, but I must admit, I am "Green", and will be doing a lot of research here and other places as I try to do some modifications, and repairs. On the top of my list is/are: Suspension squeaks, when going over bumps. Poor Fuel Economy (passed smog here in CA though). Getting average of 14 mpgs. (maybe this is right for this truck?) Finally, my biggest concern is with 170k miles, the detonation I experience when traveling at 50mph or more. Whether I maintain my speed, or accelerate, I get a moderate/severe amount of ping/detonation. I've tried different fuel formulations, and octane ratings to no avail! But , 'nuf said  , as this is a "hello" post .I want to thank any and all who help in advance, and look forward to learning about the truck, maybe even get to help a few others along the way~ Happy Independance Day (belated!) WELCOME from a USAF Veteran!
As far as my experience with stock Rangers, I've had 2.3's, 3.0's, and my Son had a 4.0 Supercab 4X4, and NONE of them got any better than 15mpg. SORRY! BUT, my TOY is a GREEN Ranger that used to have a 2.3L in it, and mpg AIN'T EVEN IN THE CARDS!!!:
