Default hey from IL!

Hey guys,
I'm new to this group. I currently have a 2000 ranger, but it's in terrible shape so I'm looking around for something new. I'm just 17 and don't know much about trucks, but my dream is to get a ranger and lift it 4" and put 33" tires on it. I'm not sure about the whole process to achieving that and everything. So if you have any tips for that let me know haha.
I'm currently looking for a new ranger. I've found a 1997 rwd 5 speed manual, but I live in northern IL where snow and ice gets crazy, so I'm not sure how well it will handle. Do any of you know how it will do? Otherwise I really want a 4x4.

I'm from the Chicago burbs. Back in the day, I bought the '97 rwd 5 speed new. Drove it all over Chicago for 13yrs. I slid once or twice but managed to not have any incidents. Took the original tires up to 89,000 miles. Crazy right! Chicago winters do stink, but if your a good driver and have a little luck, you'll be fine. Front wheel drive and 4x4 drivers in Chicago get too confident in the bad weather and that is more dangerous than a rwd vehicle. Now driving a 2005 rwd. Don't get me wrong though 4x4's are badass and sooner or later I hope to own one myself.

Welcome! My 2wd Ranger served me well in three Chicago winters with Duratracs.

Welcome, just use good judgement and understand the conditions you will be fine, I've driven mine on snow with street tires and was fine.
