Hey all... nice forum.
I've owned a 1993 4x4 3.0L Ranger for about 4 years now. I bought it with 129k on the odometer and it turned over to 217k this past year. I have a long commute to work... and rack up the mileage.
I joined up so I could research mpg increases for a *4.0L* ranger. I'm retiring the '93 model and replacing it with a '03 FX4 Level II version. The current owner says he gets 19mpg driving to and from work... which is basically the same road I take daily.
I know it sounds crazy, but I averaged 21-25 in my 3.0L Ranger. I never dropped below 21. It was bone stock too. I keep up with it religiously, as I fill the tank every two days... and it's easy to do.
I'd love to see 21mpg or better outta the FX4... but from what I've read in my short membership here, it's gonna be difficult. Underdrive pulleys, electric fan, a nice custom program, and I might get up there.
I'll keep searching, and I look forward to learning from the wiser folks in here. :-)
