Red face '07 Sport....first truck in 16 years!

Well, here it is:

Plain jane. no frills.
manual windows and locks.
no cruise. no tilt. no bs electronic things. (I'm already considering add-on cruise after 3 hour drive....I like cruise.)
Auto. (first auto in 16 years too)
minimal rust for WI. (came from canada though)
90k
Great condition overall.

I have a lot of questions. Not sure if this is the correct sub-forum?
I'm just not sure if it's typical truck things that I'm not used to or real concerns! ha.

- I found out that the AC being on in some vent modes is normal. Thanks Ford.

- On the test drive, nothing. On the 3 hour drive home, damn driver's side door sensor kicked out 4 times. hit a bump and it would trigger. going to spray it with deoxit and hope that helps. sucked riding home in the dark with the dome light on or driving 70mph and having to open close the door.

- I'm getting a grumbling/rumbling/vibration/ocillation at all speeds. definite vibration at 60-75. low hum at all speeds. Also, I hear a higher pitched sound at a slower cycle rate (doesn't match speed or RPM). Imagine MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM with HHhhhhmmm.......HHhhhhmmmmm......over the top.
Hear the sound at all speeds of varying pitch depending on speed.. It starts low, and winds up as I gain speed. The sound is kind like I'm in 4wd mode, but I'm in 2wd mode. I've tried to research it, but it hard to describe and hard to search for. Maybe it's tire imbalance? Might need road balance? Maybe it's carrier bearing? maybe it's normal? hard to say. I also didn't notice this on the test drive. Might be too late now, as I didn't notice it before.

- rear end jump around over huge bumps. not drastic, but my cars didn't do the same. SAAB 9-3, WRX wagon. Empty box was my conclusion?.

- mods.........besides the cruise, I'd like to add something behind the front grill. It's just wide open to the radiator between the grill. honeycomb would match.

Bitching aside........it feels like it was made for me. There are so many positives in contrast to the negatives listed above. Quality, reliability, looks, power, 4x4...........fits me perfectly. Even my wife said "this is you"......which is spot on.

Welcome to the site.

AC - I am pretty confident that ALL manufacturers do this now, not just Ford. Makes defrost work better, helps remove moisture.

Noise - Hard to say. Might be tires, but it IS a truck, will never be as quiet as a car.

Jumpy back end - Yep. Empty bed, stiff suspension, it's a truck!

I looks like a nice one. Hope you find here what you need.

Man... I have the same sensor issue but I'm pretty sure it's the drivers side half door. If i open and close that door I'm subject to several days of even the slightest touch of my knee to the driver side door and setting off the door ajar light and sound with the light going on and off, same with tiny bumps in the road.

But welcome!

I sprayed sensor this morning, but it still did it twice after hitting bumps.

If it keeps up...plan on removing it and cleaning it well.
If still bad....just remove it altogether.

I'll do the same, it is really quite annoying

Make sure the rear suicide door is fully closed on the bottom latch. If you don't slam the shit out of my rear doors it'll do what you're describing.

Yes, most people don't realize all 4 doors have a sensor, the front doors "ajar" sensors are also linked in with the rear doors sensors, so your front drivers door is linked with the door directly behind it, so even if your drivers door is shut, the rear door sensor may not be reading at the closed position therefore giving you a reading of the door being "open" I had this case on my truck and finally got the rear door sensor freed up til it worked as designed

----------

As far as the back end jumping around it will do that, best solutions for you if want to stop this is to get soft shocks (which will make your ride better but decrease towing capacity/hauling capacity/tighter cornering etc) which in my opinion is not worth it, or just slow down over these harsher bumps and it won't jump as bad

Welcome to FRF ... I pretty much knew immediately that your Ranger was from Canada because of the type of wheels you have on there. It seems like a lot of them come from Nova Scotia.
As far as those door sensors go, they all go out over time and I just replaced the main ones on my front doors in my regular 2004 Ranger about a month ago and I replaced the ones in my early 2004 about 6 months ago. Like you said, they're really annoying because it makes a beeping sound, your dome light comes on and the door ajar light in your dash comes on.
The only place you can buy these outside the stealership is NAPA.
They're a real PITA to change because you have to remove the whole door latch assembly to gain access to them.

Good Luck

Thanks, I didn't even think of that.
Lubed the front and it didn't work.
Lubed the back, and it hasn't happened since.

----------

So how do I go about figuring out this noise and vibration I'm having?

It's a low pitch sound.
At slow speeds it's an oscillation. Wub-wub-wub-wub-wub
When I stop, the sound stops.
As I accelerate it becomes a solid low pitch hum. Wuuuuuuuuuuuuuubbbbbbbbbbbbbb.
Then a bit of vibration at higher speeds.
I assumed wheel balancing, but I have no clue. I read that Rangers benefit from a road force balancing?

Vibration in the steering wheel at all or just the truck? A poorly balanced wheel or alignment will give vibrations, the wub sound can't help but make me think of something spinning or turning like a driveshaft? Does anything feel loose under there? And I guess do you feel any vibrations when you brake?
