Default Son's first rig...yellow Edge

Good morning. My son and I have been looking for several months for just the right vehicle for his first rig. Lots of Rangers and Tacomas out there, the good ones were way overpriced, and the rest are trashed or have a gazillion miles (and overpriced).

A local dealership called me and said they had taken a Ranger in on trade and should come check it out. Glad we did.

2002 Edge 2wd 4 door.
3.0, automatic
117,000 miles.
EVERY SINGLE maintenance record since new.
2 years as a rental, then since late 2003 owned by a local guy.
No dents, hardly a scratch on it.
Locking hard tonneau cover
New AT tires.
Radiator, heater core, and all hoses replaced 2014 (it was written under hood, with Ford part numbers and everything!)

Engine just purrs. Transmission shifts just like it should.

The only thing we found is that the power mirrors only adjust down, not up or to the sides. Already found a switch online to replace it.

We knew that these types of rigs were out there, and if we kept our eyes open one would appear!

Heck maybe my son won't be driving it much....it's gonna get similar mileage as my f150, and a hell of a lot easier to park in the city!

He has some crafty auto buddies....that grill and the running boards are coming off and getting painted. He hasn't decided, matte black or shiny.

If it were me, I would go matte on the grill and shiny on the boards

I'd be prepared just to throw the running boards in the trash once you take them off. They rust REALLY bad.

We don't use salt for deicing roads here, and we are 40 miles inland from the Pacific. Doesn't appear to be any rust issues anywhere.

Welcome, Nice find.

If you do not mind what was the cost of this Ranger?

Way too much.....they were asking KBB retail $8991.

Got it for $7200 with a few oil changes thrown in. Crazy to pay this much for a 14 year old rig, but that's the market, at least in this area.

We'd probably looked at 30 different Rangers in the last couple months, this was far and away the nicest in this price range, and the complete verified service record made it a no brainer for us.
