First Ranger.
Hi guys, just got my first ranger today.
2001 regular cab 3.0 2WD with 115k miles. Was a government truck so its white and has some dings but nothing bad. A/C still blows cold.
Paid $2200. I figure thats a pretty good deal right?
Happy to be here.

Thanks, Do you happen to know what came standard with the tow package in a 2001 ranger? I know it doesn't have a 2 inch receiver under the bumper and a Google search isnt turning up any real results.
screen capture windows
Im gonna do the prep work and get it painted cheap at Macco(well, not dirt cheap I will get a clear coat put on as well) as well as get a spray in bed liner for it and detail it. I will also replace the headlight housings as I did on my 1998 explorer. I cant stand nasty yellow headlights!
I figure ill spend another ~$800 on it to make it look mint or at least very good. I fully expect it to last me 10 years or till 220k miles. Weve got a 2002 taurus with the 3.0 at 270k and its still running strong as ever. I am very very meticulous about maintenance.

On My truck (03 Edge) the "tow package" was just a reciever, and I hear that's all it is too... With your truck, it looks like they not only removed it (if it had it at the time) but also put on an older style bumper!
To see what your truck left the factory with, you can run your vin at etis.ford.com for a build sheet.

Man with a plan! Be sure to keep us updated! And if you're replacing your headlights, you could sell them on here to make a little back!
And just remember that budget when you look back and realize yplou passed it a long time ago that's what happens to me on every truck!

Thanks for the info man! Appreciate it.
Looking at Google images of 2001 XL rangers it may be the stock bumper since a lot of other base tier rangers seem to have it but im not sure, ill have to ask the seller.
Based on the build details I dont think it has the towing package but it does say "With transmission oil cooler" so perhaps adding on a 2 inch receiver will make it fully capable.
About the only option the thing has is A/C! haha I didnt realize how base tier it was. Apparently my 1998 Explorer XLT has been spoiling me! haha

Maybe I always overlooked the bumper then! I've had a 02, a 03, and a 06, all with the same type of bumper... My friend had a 91 with one that looks like yours.
I say go for getting a receiver, it'll bolt right on anyways! I have had 3.0s in all my trucks and they tow pretty well, I love my "tow package" on my newest one though!
And I know what you mean about other cars spoiling you! I would really miss my crank windows and manual lock doors, but ever since driving the company vehicle and friends cars, I want heated seats and steering wheel radio controls...
