Hey all, I'm pretty new to the truck world in general, especially the modification world. To give you an idea: I wanted to change my break pads and put on some higher quality rotors. Well I got the wheel, auto locking hubs, calipers, and bracket off fine. But, when I got the 'meat and potatoes' I realized I didn't have a clue what I was about to get into and settled for just changing the break pads.

I bought my 4.0L v6 automatic (could not find a manual with less then 120k in the 4.0L) 4WD Ranger in June of 2014 with 89k miles. It's at 112k miles now. I bought it from a Vietnam veteran who treated it like a queen. Got the truck with new off road tires and a few replaced parts here and there (off road shocks, ball joints, tail lights, wheels, sound system but no sub, and all new fluids). It's in good shape.

Next on my list: swap out the auto locking hubs for manual lockers with the conversion kit; replace the break rotors; wheel bearings, racers, and grease seals. But, I don't know what size spindle bearing lock nut tool to use to remove the spindle lock nut. I think 4 prong 2 -3/16" for the dana 35 front axle with the auto locking hubs? I wasn't able to figure it out.

I'm not liking the auto lockers so far. They have blown o rings on both sides already and are fucking grimed up as shit with grease and dirt. Needless so say I figured out the aren't engaging when I shift into 4WD. when I turn the front axle on both sides of the diff. I can just keep turning it. The auto lockers should engage after 1-3 revolutions and then prevent the axle from turning any more when the wheels are on the ground, if I am correct. Additionally the amount of grease inside the locking hub around around the locking cam and axle makes me think I might have a blown bearing seal.

Eventually I want to put a lift on it. I'm thinking not a suspension lift because it's already kind of a stiff ride. The ultimate goal is of course to fit a bit bigger tire under there. Thankfully, there is a thread that discusses said ideas.

Also wouldn't mind getting a bit more performance out of the engine. I think a little more power to the wheels to get me through the mud and sand (I live 20 minutes from a sand dunes OHV area) would be nice; in addition, I want to throw enough sand in those Toyota lovers faces', when I'm out in front, to run em' off the dunes.

Uh some other shit about me: Im a dude, 25 y.o, and just got started working as a professional in my field (fisheries and wildlife). I'm also single, so I intended to spend as much money on my truck as I can before I have a serious relationship, and have to start paying my student loans back.
