New to Rangers and Trucks
Hello, everyone!
My name is Chris, and I just recently picked up an '88 Ford Ranger XLT 4X2. I have never owned a truck before, but I just couldn't pass this one up. It needed some general maintenance, but otherwise was in pretty good shape and I was able to snag it up for $800 (images attached).
Just a little about me... I'm 31 and married w/ 3 kids (all girls). I work as a Software Developer in Omaha, NE, but my biggest hobby is working on cars. I don't the opportunity as much as I used to, but I take every chance I get. My first car was an '89 Toyota Supra Turbo that I rebuilt the engine in twice. It was my learner. I spent so many hours working on that car!
I'm hoping to spend some money on this Ranger to get it into tip-top shape. I just replaced the rear shocks, and I have a new drag link and tie rod end in the mail to fix the steering linkage. The engine has some oil leakage, but very minimal. Depending on time, I may try replacing gaskets and such.
If you all have any tips or advice, I'm all ears. Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Thanks,
Chris

Know a guy who has one just like it. He was going to drop a brand new 302 in it until wifey wanted a new kitchen.

Re: New to Rangers and Trucks
Thank you, guys! I didn't realize there were going to be that many Nebraskans on here!
irish, your friend's truck looks very well cared for. Much better cosmetic shape than mine.
I must say, I wouldn't mind finding a larger engine to drop in or figuring out how to squeeze a little more power out of mine. If I hit a hill in 5th, I can't even keep a constant speed. Again, the issue is convincing the wife.
